My Favorite Disney Characters!

Disney is a huge part of my every day life. Whether it be through Twitter and all of my wonderful Disney friends or planning Disney vacations or playing with Disney toys with the kids, there is not a day goes by that Disney is not involved somehow! One thing I absolutely love is all of the Disney characters. All of them have such different human characteristics. It got me thinking! Who are my favorites? Who do I think I am most like?

Here is my Top 10 list of my favorite Disney characters!

10. Princess Tiana: Tiana is an independent, motivated and determined young woman. She put her mind to getting that restaurant, and she worked and scrimped and saved until she had the money she thought she needed. She wants to do things her own way, and she doesn’t want to have to accept help from anyone. I have a hard time accepting help myself. I am always determined to do things on my own (which sometimes bites me in the you know where). At the end of the movie, she learns the balance of her restaurant career and love. I wish I could cook like Tiana, but alas, I can not!

9.  Buzz Lightyear and Woody: OK, OK, I know technically this is TWO characters, but they go hand in hand to me! Whenever I think of one, I think of the other! Buzz is a great leader, although he tends to get in trouble at times. Woody is always his savior. Woody is loyal, dependable, and always the one who has to get Buzz out of trouble. These two are my son’s favorite characters, which makes me love them even more!

8.  Carl Fredricksen: OK, OK, so I am not a cranky old man. BUT one of the things I love the most about Carl Fredricksen is his undying love for his wife who has passed away. He was so dedicated to her that he wished to fulfill her dreams as a tribute to her after she died. As cranky as he is with Russell, this is a man who is full of love. She wanted more than anything to get to Paradise Falls. He was determined to make that happen. His love for her continued long after she was no longer with him. How can you not admire a man like that?

7.  Dory: Simply put, Dory cracks me up. Ellen DeGeneres was the perfect choice to play the forgetful blue tang fish! Now, my memory is a tad bit better than Dory, but there are times I feel the exact way. Dory is naive, which I guess I can be about certain things, but she is always optimistic! I always try to see the glass as half full. By the end of the movie, Dory’s loyalty and optimism bring Marlin and Nemo back together!

6.  Belle: Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorite movies, and Belle has always been one of my favorite princesses. I, like Belle, love to read. Before I had kids, I always had a book with me. Now I don’t get the time to read as much, but that has never stopped me from loving to read! Like Belle, I am not afraid to speak my mind, which is probably why I relate to her so well! She also is a caregiver, and she enjoys taking care of those she loves. She is stubborn, loyal, and very compassionate which are traits I see in myself.

5. Ariel: Well, first off, I have red hair, too, so I’m naturally taken a bit by Ariel! I love the fact that Ariel gave up her voice to find true love with Prince Eric. That shows how devoted Ariel is to her heart. Ariel also exhibits a youthful curiosity that I just adore. She is independent and does not let fate control her future. She decided she wanted to be with Prince Eric, and she did what she could to do that. I feel I did the same to be with my husband (although much to his dismay at times, I did get to keep my voice). We met when we were 20 years old at South Padre Island. He lived in Oklahoma, and I lived in Texas. We gave up quite a bit to be together, but in the end, it all worked out as we are getting ready to celebrate our 13th anniversary this year. He is my Prince Eric! Ariel is also my daughter’s favorite character. When she was 3, Ariel told her that they looked like they could be sisters. Riley never forgot that. Neither have I.

4. Peter Pan: He never grows up! That just about says it all! I, too, have a feeling of never wanting to grow up (which could explain my love of Disney characters).  He’s mischievous and loves to go on all sorts of adventures. While I am not too mischievous, I can relate to the adventure seeking! Now Peter is also boastful and cocky, which I am not, but I sometimes envy his careless and selfish attitude. Yes, it’s true. There are times when I, too, could do things just for me! Instead, I spend most of the time doing things for my husband and my kids, which I love. But every once in a while….

 3. Simba: He is just so dang cute. Simba is fiercely loyal to his family, so much so that he leaves the Pridelands, rather than stay and face his mother after he believes he was the run who caused Mufasa to be killed. Once he learns about the damage that has been done to the Pridelands by Scar, he runs home to save the land and face his Uncle Scar. I, too, am fiercely loyal to my family. They are what make me get up every morning, and I would do whatever I had to in order to save them from danger. So I can relate to Simba. And like I said, he’s just so dang cute.

2. Donald Duck: I see some of myself in Donald Duck. He has a short temper, which I have been known to have. But overall, he has a positive outlook on life! Donald Duck also shows tendencies to be stubborn and committed. I have also been known to be a bit stubborn myself. And once I commit to doing something, I do it 100%. Prime example is when I decided to join Weight Watchers. I told myself no doubt that I would lose 35 pounds. And you know what? I did it! Donald’s rascally voice always can make me laugh. Now I don’t get in trouble quite as much as Donald, but who doesn’t love Donald?

1. Mickey Mouse: Um, duh. He is the epitome of all things Disney. One of my favorite sites at Magic Kingdom is the  Partners statue showing Walt Disney and Mickey holding hands standing in front of the castle. The great Disney empire all started with Mickey Mouse. And of course, it’s only fitting that I share a birthday (November 18th) with Mickey Mouse! Mickey’s spirited personality can always make me laugh. To me, he represents happiness and joy. Everyone knows who Mickey is, and he makes people of all ages happy! Why wouldn’t he be my favorite character?
